If you’ve ever been involved with a Parent Advisory Council (PAC), you know there’s a lot happening behind the scenes to keep things running smoothly. One of the things that helps guide how we operate is something called bylaws.
So, what are bylaws?
Bylaws are the official rules that govern how our PAC functions. They outline everything from how meetings are run, how decisions are made, to when elections are held. Think of them as the “instruction manual” for how we stay organized, transparent, and fair.
What are the changes we've made?
Our previous bylaws said that the Annual General Meeting (AGM) — where we elect our new executive members — must be held in September. While this has worked in the past, we’ve found it can sometimes limit our ability to plan ahead and ensure a smooth leadership transition.
That’s why we passed an amendment in a special meeting on June 2nd proposing a small change to the bylaw to allow the AGM to be held in either June or September. This gives us more flexibility to:
Elect new executives before the summer break
Give incoming volunteers time to get familiar with their roles
Allow for better planning and handover between outgoing and incoming members
We believe this simple adjustment will help our PAC stay strong and better support our school community.
